Next week! ... Update - THIS Week!! ... update - TOMORROW!!!

 May 14

I leave in...  checking vacation countdown app...  9 DAYS!!

Time to check the 14 day forecast.  Above freezing.  I can work with that.

And you just witnessed all of the planning I've done since my last post.  More later.

May 16

My next important bit of research Tips for Great Coffee in Newfoundland. This sight warns that... "when you can only deliver bog water mother parkers from the local gas station, it makes for a tough day."

I am just realizing I have to pack this weekend.  I managed to scam Valerie into taking me to the airport at 5am once again.  You'd think she would learn not to answer 'what are you doing on Thursday morning' with 'nothing, what do you have in mind'.  And the cat sitter is a go as well.  So, only major issue now - what outerwear to take.  TBD.

May 19.

I just got a notification from Booking.com that I am about to be charged for my first hotel.  Better check and make sure it is still what I want.

Still looks good.  And basically everything else downtown is full except for the big chain hotels.

Duckworth Manor

Still looking at the weather.  On the west coast we like to say, if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes but I think I may have to give that one to Newfoundland.  For the week I'm there, there is rain, showers, sun, overcast, cloudy.  No snow thankfully.  But it dips close to freezing at night.

Ok, time to go try on some jackets.  But first a cup of coffee.  ...

I've made a jacket(s) decision.  One thick Colombia Fleece (Salvation Army) and one waterproof Eddie Bauer Rain Jacket with hood (end of season sale).  Purple(s)!

Time to start packing I suppose.  I leave in four days(ish). I'll think about it for a while more.

I started ukulele lessons yesterday.  Do I take my ukulele to keep practicing?  Maybe I'll just go and practice now.  G C A E. My Dog Has Fleas.

May 21

So, ya, I didn't pack over the long weekend.  I tossed a few pairs of underwear at my backpack.  That's it.  I am out tonight and I work from home tomorrow so my lunch break will be some frantic throwing of clothes at my bag.

May 22

Yikes.  I was signing onto an online meeting when I noticed my 'time to check-in' email that had arrived an hour earlier!  I completely forgot.  I got the last aisle seat.  I prefer window so I can love the view from the sky (when there is a view), especially for daylight flights.  But an aisle seat is definitely better than a middle seat!  I feel like one of my students when I say 'you registered late so you get whatever chuff is still available'.  I should know better.  I blame doing laundry before work.  And working during work, of course.

I'm on lunch break writing this when I should be packing (or eating).

I am also charging everything at once so I'll probably blow a fuse for all of the overloading of one socket.
I had to unplug my phone to take this picture so add one more

Oh!!  I just got another iceberg alert!  I'll be near one of those spots, in Twillingate (see arrow)

Ok, I've got to eat!

Later that same day...

I was supposed to pack on my lunch break but I am trying to get everything cleared out of my inbox before I go, and I had to get my laundry in off the line as the sky threatened to start raining, and food.  So all I managed was to add a bird book to my very small pile (currently - underwear, long johns, and an Eastern Birds bird book - I may need more than this...).

Even later that same day...

I spent some time creating a ukulele travel case out of cardboard and duct tape.  I know, I know, so fancy.  But that's not true, if I wanted to be fancy, I would have used coloured duct tape.  Just simple silver for this simple girl.  Now, I just have to actually practice.  I can't let me ukulele troop down.

I went up to Valerie's for dinner.  Now it is 8:23.  I managed to pack.  I feel like something is wrong.  I only have one half of my backpack filled. I must remember, it is only a week.  And I don't need to bring my full first aid kit.   I guess I could bring enough clothes to not have to do sink laundry?  No, don't be ridiculous.  I'll just use the extra room to bring back several 'My friend visited Dildo and all she brought me was this t-shirt'!

Some ukulele practice to let my sub-conscious  mind think about what I have forgotten.

Much later that same day...

Time for bed.  I am packed (I think)  Kitty litter is cleaned.  Garbage is taken out.  Dishwasher is running.  Gotta get up at 4:30.  See you in Newfoundland.
